Movie Magic :
A Pocket Manual of Practical Effects

This project addresses the “Silence is Golden” International Society of Typographic Designers 2021 student brief. The task was “to design a typographic work that celebrates the world of Silent Cinema.”

This manual walks you through some of the practical effects seen in early 20th-century cinema, giving life to vintage techniques in a world dominated by CG. It indulges in pastiche as it reintroduces type conventions, materials and (mimicking) mass production techniques from the early 20th century in order to make the manual as authentic to this era as possible under my own constraints as a student.
